Mirat Gurol, Pure-O Tech Chief Scientific Advisor Dr. Gurol grew up in Turkey. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey, and her M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Environmental Science and Engineering from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Dr. Gurol has served as the Professor of Chemical Engineering at Drexel University for 17 years, and as the Blasker Chair Professor and the Founder and Director of the Environmental Engineering Program at San Diego State University for 10 years.

She is currently the Professor Emeritus, and still active with teaching and research at San Diego State University. She has published extensively on water quality and treatment technologies of contaminated water, and has received numerous awards for her research in this area. She is considered a world-renown expert on ozonation and advanced oxidation technologies of water treatment.
